Jonathan McDade – ABFI, IBA

  • Jonathan is a Senior Executive at the Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland and is responsible for managing the Irish Brewers Association.  Jonathan has ten years of experience working on a variety of communications and public affairs roles including four years at Murray Consultants.  Specialising in public affairs campaigns, he has worked on a number of high profile projects and he has also worked for a wide range of corporate clients.  Jonathan’s political experience includes work as Senior Press Officer for the Ireland for Europe Lisbon treaty referendum campaign in 2009 and prior to that he was a Parliamentary Assistant for Ruairi Quinn, TD.

    Topic:  Current state of the brewing sector in Ireland
    Jonathan McDade from the Irish Brewers Association will make a presentation on the current state of the brewing sector in Ireland.  Jonathan will outline consumption, production and employment trends over the past five years.  2014 saw direct employment in the beer industry up 8%, due to the ongoing investment in the sector and new product development. Irish beer industry exports are worth over €220 million and the industry supports thousands of jobs in the development process of beer, from grain to glass. There are various challenges that the industry faces, particularly in the areas of regulation and taxation.  However beer is also experiencing a renaissance with the advent of the craft sector and product innovation among the major brewers which has offered consumers unprecedented choice in the on and off-trade.
