    Kathryn Costello is Operations Director of Bewley’s – Ireland’s market leading coffee and tea company.    She has been instrumental in the development and leadership of Bewley’s sustainability programmes which are integrated across the entire organisation.  This is underpinned by a company-wide commitment to ethical trading, environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility.  Bewley’s has major coffee roasting, tea blending and distribution operations in Ireland, the UK and the United States.

    Bewley’s seek long-term sustainable coffee and tea supply arrangements with the world’s best producers – supporting suitable working conditions and protecting the natural environment.  It is a carbon neutral company operating to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and the ISO 14064-1 standard for independent carbon verification.  Bewley’s also participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project and is a recognised industry leader in carbon reduction.

    Bewley’s Sustainability Plan was verified to Origin Green standard in 2013 and this was successfully retained in 2014.  The company was a Finalist in the Bord Bia Sustainability Awards 2013.  Bewley’s pioneered the introduction of fairtrade certified coffee to Ireland in 1996.  The company supports community based development initiatives at a primary producer level abroad and also contributes at home through its long term support for Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice and Junior Achievement Ireland.

    Kathryn has a Master of Business Studies degree from UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business, a B. Comm Degree, a Diploma in System Analysis and professional qualifications in Project Management.   She joined Bewley’s in 1999 as Group IT Manager and was subsequently appointed Operations Director.  Prior to this she worked in software industry consultancy and was formerly a lecturer in Dublin Institute of Technology.  She has specialist expertise in the implementation of Continuous Improvement Programmes designed to enhance organisational effectiveness, reduce costs and improve customer service.
