Eamonn Merriman – Inspector, Ozone Depleting Substances and Fluorinated, Gases Team Environmental Protection Agency

  • Speaker Bio:

Eamonn has worked with the EPA since 1998, primarily in the licensing and enforcement of large industrial and waste facilities. Following a recent spell as a Research Officer in the EPA Research Programme, he currently works within the Office of Environmental Sustainability whwere he is the EPA’s primary contact for Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-Gases) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).

    Presentation Title:

F-Gas and ODS Regulation – Requirements for Operators of Refrigerators, Chillers and Air-Conditioning Systems

    Presentation Synopsis:

Refrigeration, chiller and air-conditioning systems mainly rely on Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-Gases) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) to function at present. However, F-Gases are very potent greenhouse gases and ODS deplete the earth’s ozone layer. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the competent authority for the implementation and enforcement of regulations relating to these gases. Restrictions, both current and looming, on the use of these gases have major implications for the operators of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. This presentation will describe regulation requirements, the phase-down of ODS and F-Gas and the use of alternative gases.
