Alex Mountcharles – Slane Castle Irish Whiskey

  • Managing Director, Slane Distillery

Cultivated his interest in whiskey during an EOP placement with Pernod-Ricard in Australia in 2000. Went on to work in the bioenergy sector in the UK and South Africa – the Slane Distillery will be the only distillery in Ireland to include an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant. Returned to Ireland in 2008 and launched an Irish whiskey enterprise, sourcing product from the Cooley Distillery and selling it under the Slane Castle brand. Began developing plans for a distillery at Slane in 2012 in order to secure product supply and use on farm resources of barley production and water from the River Boyne. Secured the backing and long-term partnership of Brown-Forman, owners of Jack Daniels, in June 2015 and the Slane Distillery is due to commence production at the end of 2016.
